In our Culture of Service Foundations class, taught through Barry-Wehmiller University, we define service as taking action to meet the needs of someone else.
Many people think of customers as existing externally from an organization, someone who pays for goods and services. We feel that anyone becomes a customer at the moment we have an opportunity to serve. A culture of service is culture with a shared purpose where everyone is focused on meeting the needs of others inside and outside the organization.
Bob Burg is an author and speaker who has reached hundreds of thousands of people with his book, The Go-Giver, a parable with a message of service to others, very similar to what we teach at Barry-Wehmiller.
Bob is a new friend to our organization, having found us through our upcoming book, Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power of Treating Your People Like Family. We are very fortunate to have his support of our book and our message and we’re glad to add his voice to ours.
