Podcast: David Vandermolen and the Shape of Leadership
March 06, 2018
One night at a dinner of a group of our team members, a young man in our organization asked me, “Bob, what do you hope to achieve while on the face of this earth?”
After some thought, I responded that my greatest fear is that we will have worked hard to build something of significance here at Barry-Wehmiller, which will fade away and not be sustained beyond my time.
His simple thought-provoking question and my response became a clarifying moment in our organizational journey. How would we continue to be a successful and sustainable business driven by a dynamic people-centric culture? We began to engage in bigger conversations about the legacy of our business. One of the actions we took to preserve that legacy was the creation of an internal learning institution that would be distinctively Barry-Wehmiller, evocative of our unique worldview and principles.
One of the architects behind Barry-Wehmiller University is David Vandermolen, our “Learning Sensei.” David has an engaging presence with a passion for learning and a passion for educating leaders.
At the start of every new year, many people make new year’s resolutions to get in shape. They join a gym, go on a diet. But do we ever think about what shape our leadership is in and do we take steps to change it? On this week’s Everybody Matters Podcast, David talks about the shape of leadership and offers tips on how you can improve yours.
