ST. LOUIS — Oct. 21, 2025 — Barry-Wehmiller (BW), the 140-year-old, $3.6 billion-plus global platform of industrial and packaging automation, professional services and life sciences technology, today announced the release of the 10th anniversary edition of Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power of Caring for Your People Like Family. Co-authored by Barry-Wehmiller Chairman of the Board and former CEO Bob Chapman and Conscious Capitalism’s Raj Sisodia, the book outlines a bold revisioning of the way success in business should be defined and the impact it can have on people’s lives.
“My hope for this edition is that it becomes virtually the textbook used to teach leadership in every part of our society, in every country in the world,” said Bob Chapman, who Inc. Magazine recently named one of the 2025 Top 50 Leadership and Management Experts. “The way we lead impacts the way people live, and business can be a powerful force for good if leaders understand the profound responsibility they have to the lives they are privileged to lead.”
Chapman became the senior executive of Barry-Wehmiller in 1975 at age 30 when the 90-year-old business had $20 million in revenue, outdated technology and a very weak financial position. Despite the obstacles, Chapman applied a unique blend of strategy to grow the company through acquisition, creating a sustainable business model not susceptible to the whims of any one industry. Alongside tremendous growth in his business, a series of realizations led Chapman away from traditional management practices to Truly Human Leadership® — a people-centric approach where his team members feel valued, cared for and integral to the company’s purpose. Everybody Matters is the story of this journey, as well as how these cultural values were implemented, how other businesses can implement these principles, and the impact this definition of success in business can have on the world.
“I think the message of Everybody Matters is universal,” said co-author Raj Sisodia. “It applies to every industry, every context, every sector of the economy, every size of organization, and therefore I hope that the book breaks through to that level of consciousness and wide awareness, because I think the content within the book was already powerful and now it's even more honed and expanded. There's a lot there for everybody to use, and it's very practical. That's one of the things people have always loved about this book is you can take it and right away start doing things.”
When Everybody Matters was originally published in 2015, it landed on The Wall Street Journal’s bestselling business book list and was translated into six languages. Since its release, Chapman’s story and message have been featured in countless books, articles and podcasts. Harvard Business School wrote a second case study on Barry-Wehmiller that is taught in more than 70 universities worldwide. The revised edition, published by bestselling author Simon Sinek’s Optimism Press imprint of Portfolio Books, includes an introduction by Sinek and five new chapters offering updated statistics and 70-plus pages of fresh insights, gained as Barry-Wehmiller has evolved and grown from $1.7 billion in annual revenue with 100 acquisitions in 2015 to $3.6 billion-plus with more than 150 acquisitions.
“Though a lot of leaders talk about this stuff, in Everybody Matters, you will see what happens when you actually do it,” Sinek said in his introduction. “... Put simply, what Bob Chapman showed made me realize that I can no longer be accused of being a crazy idealist if what I imagine exists in reality.”
While Bob Chapman remains Chairman of the Board, in 2025, his son, Kyle Chapman, was named CEO of Barry-Wehmiller, becoming the third generation of the Chapman family to lead the company.
“This revised and expanded edition of Everybody Matters further demonstrates that a company can achieve extraordinary financial strength without compromising its commitment to people,” said Kyle Chapman. “We are committed to showing the world that it is possible to be both a model of human-centered leadership and a top-quartile performer. If we continue this trajectory, others will follow — not just because of our performance, but because we’re fulfilling our purpose of building a better world through business.”
