Every Voice Matters culture assessment outcomes and planning continue

Feedback sessions for those who participated in the culture assessment are underway to gain a deeper understanding of how to improve in areas identified as needing improvement. Please continue to make your voice heard by joining a session and sharing your perspective.

Early outcomes: Several exciting changes that have resulted from the assessment include (for US team members) a new Parental Leave policy that provides additional paid time off for new parents and an educational campaign to kick off more robust leader learning across the organization, beginning with webinars, videos and more to help BW’s 1500 leaders embody our Leader Expectations & Commitments. Next week’s State of the Business will outline these in greater detail.

Coming soon: For those who expressed a desire to better understand BW’s sustainability efforts, you will soon have the opportunity to join BW’s Environmental Sustainability Community of Practice and engage with other team members committed to furthering sustainability. The first meeting will be Friday, August 11. Watch your inbox for information or email geoff.nykin@barry-wehmiller.com to be added to the meeting series.

However, we are not taught to listen in our society, which is why we offer our “Listen Like a Leader” class through Barry-Wehmiller University. Start to learn how you can be a better listener by clicking the link below.

NEW TECH TIP

Best practices for out-of-office messages

When you’re out for a half day or more, using Outlook Automatic Replies to set up an out-of-office message tells customers, teammates, and those you support that they’re in good hands even while you’re away. The best OOO messages include the following things:

  • Professional greeting (“Hello, thank you for your note”)
  • Timeframe (“this afternoon”; “through Friday”; “until August 2”);
  • If you’ll read email while away (“I’ll check email once a day, so my response may be slow” or “I will not check email while I’m out, but will reply when I return on [date]”)
  • Full name of who to contact if a request is urgent.
