BW Design Group takes first place in Inductive Automation’s annual Build-a-Thon

Alongside 30 other competitors, the BW Design Group (DG) team of Keith Gamble, Alex Spyksma and Christian Davis showed off their programming talents over the two-stage competition. The competition entailed a remote "race" where participants were tasked with completing programming challenges. Following this, the top two teams, including DG, were invited to the live finals at #ICCElevate. Over two intensive days, they worked on developing a new application designed to control a Plinko-style board.

PSA's Terry Porto helps a canning customer in their time of need

When Pneumatic Scale Angelus (PSA) customer Can Corporation of America's (Can Corp) legacy Angelus seamer broke down during their busiest season, they reached out to their account manager, Terry Porto, for help. Terry overcame lead time challenges to get a new turret assembled, then personally delivered new components on a Saturday to get them up and running. Can Corp’s Robert Gatz said, “They helped us tremendously as far as getting that piece of equipment up and going in a time limit that meant we didn't lose any customers to downtime.” Learn more about how Terry is living up to BW Packaging's vision of People Who Care, Solutions That Perform in this video.

Bob Chapman: Decking the halls with donations

In December 2012, BW held an organization-wide food drive to help with food insecurity. A competition across the organization helped spur participation and excitement. In the end, teams collectively donated five tons of food throughout eight US cities and Chennai, India. Check out the video below to see how BW team members touched a lot of lives that holiday season.

Nine BW women honored at YWCA Leader Lunch

This month, BW Chief People Officer Rhonda Spencer hosted nine BW and BW Design Group women leaders who were recognized at the YWCA Leader Lunch: Grace Fechter, Nadia Vitale, Rachel Bishop, Becca Oswald, Anne Stotler, Christina Bouapha, Christi Emmenegger and Mary Rudder. Also recognized but not able to attend the lunch was Teresa Sanzottera. Each were nominated by a Senior Leadership Team leader for exhibiting our Leader Commitments.

Shine the Light Award: Becky Blume, BW-Corporate

Congratulations to Becky for receiving an award for Drives Results. “I am honored to work with Becky Blume,” said her nominator Amber Frederick. “Becky’s attention to detail and ability to connect the dots across all systems, divisions, policies and practices, all while keeping team member best interest in mind is unmatched. Her determination to identify and eliminate all possible risks liminated, ensures that all projects are as successful as possible. She is the definition of tribal knowledge meets continuous improvement and we are lucky to have her.”

Shine the Light Award: Jim Blair, BWIS-Brooklyn Park

Congratulations to Jim for receiving an award for Drives Results. Jim’s nominator Nathan Lang said, “Jim is often tasked with large volumes of work and short deadlines, but he has consistently achieved accurate, safe and quality work for both areas of the equipment he works with. Jim’s work most often requires no rework or revisits, and his deliverables are always finalized in the most efficient manner. Jim is very dependable and instills high amounts of trust with his attention to detail, emphasis on safety and his dedication to quality products.”

Shine the Light Award: Dianna Brown, Accraply-Canada

Congratulations to Dianna for receiving an award for Customer Focus. “I can’t say enough about my appreciation for Dianna and what she has meant to our business both locally and to our corporate partners,” shared nominators Monique Matthews and Terri Kopel. “Dianna takes initiative, exhibiting resiliency and tenacity that has inspired all who have had the pleasure of working with her. Dianna has been a tremendous partner to our US division and ensures seamless accounting processes for the Canadian division. She has been an incredible team member and wonderful to work with.”

Shine the Light Award: Mark Laroche, PSA-Akron

Congratulations to Mark for receiving an award for Drives Results. His nominator Seth Toney said, “Mark is very dedicated to his team and extremely consistent in delivering high quality results. Mark is always prepared to help and offers effective solutions to any issues that may arise. Mark’s attention to detail has helped save our team from any delays or releasing equipment that could be further improved. Mark has helped me on a variety of projects with his extensive knowledge and experience to help me learn more efficient ways to complete my projects.”

The BW, Design Group, PSA, and Accraply locations are part of the Shine the Light pilot. The recognition program will be available in most BW locations beginning mid-January. Watch your inbox for information.

High Five Recognition: Lorna Cardona, DG-Atlanta

Congratulations to Lorna for receiving a High Five Award. Lorna’s nominator Megan Brown said, “As my first travelling contract with DG, Lorna has helped create an environment for me that promotes personal and professional success. Lorna continues to offer any support necessary with great communication and leadership skills for all involved. She has been patient with my questions and caring about me to ensure I succeed. She has made my first travel contract easier from a personal perspective and helped me grow professionally by learning how she handles situations.”

High Five Recognition: Nick Johnson, DG-Seattle

Congratulations to Nick for receiving a High Five Award. “Recently, Nick was selected as Project Manager for a complicated project and quickly acclimated himself, allowing a seamless transition,” said nominator Kevan Petak. “Nick's passion, hard work, commun-ication and willingness to drop everything when the client called endeared him to the facility's general manager and maintenance manager. This project was completed three weeks early due to Nick’s coordination and dedication to exceed all expectations of the project. Nick’s deliverables contributed to our success and secured this important client for future projects.”

Deadline for goal setting fast approaching

If you’re participating in the goal setting process, don’t forget to complete it by December 31, 2023. Goal setting, the first step in BW’s new Performance Cycle, helps team members perform to the best of their abilities in alignment with the organization’s overall goals. BW's free Sophos antivirus software program ends December 31, 2023

The free antivirus software offered as part of BW’s former agreement with Sophos ends December 31, 2023. BW’s Information Security team recommends you implement antivirus software on all of your PCs. Therefore, for team members who are using this antivirus software, determine whether you want to remain with Sophos (which you’ll need to purchase), or if you want to remove the application from your device and switch to a different virus protection solution.
