Podcast: The Ripple Effect of Listening
January 21, 2020
I’m proud to say that Our Community Listens, the non-profit my wife Cynthia and I founded, has brought Barry-Wehmiller’s listening skills training to 33 communities and 10,000 lives in the last nine years. Can you imagine the ripple effect from each of those people as they go into their communities and actually listen, really listen to the people they come into contact with every day?
When Cynthia came up with the idea to bring Barry-Wehmiller’s listening skills class (now called Listen Like a Leader) into communities, we knew it would have tremendous impact. We could never have dreamed that a surprising set of circumstances would take those teachings across the world.
On this week’s Everybody Matters Podcast you’ll hear an amazing story about how OCL now has a partner in the far east. This past November, Barry-Wehmiller University’s David VanderMolen and OCL’s Curriculum Director, Marsha Burns, traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to train 13 new facilitators who are prepared to share empathetic listening throughout Asia. You can read more about this partnership in a blog post by Rebecca Emerson, OCL’s Executive Director.
Imagine the ripple effect these people will have in their part of the world!
Listen to David, Rebecca and Marsha talk about how this partnership came about and how it has the potential to change thousands of lives in Malaysia and across Asia.
