NEW TECH TIP

Text message scams are on the rise

Some BW team members recently reported receiving smishing attacks on their mobile phones. These personalized, text message scams appear to be sent by BW leaders. If you think you are receiving a smishing attack: (1) Think before providing confidential information, returning a phone call, texting back or taking other action. Look for a sense of urgency, misspellings and grammar errors. (2) Consider if the type of message is out of character for the sender. (3) Contact sender through an alternate method (i.e. BW e-mail, Microsoft Teams, verified business or personal phone number, or in person). (4) If you determine the message is malicious, delete it and block the number. (5) Contact IT Service Desk with questions!
